Growing an Adult Spirituality

Flores de Mayo

Welcome to the annual Flores de Mayo, a Filipino-American community celebration on Sunday, May 4, after the 12:00 noon mass at St. Augustine Church and Grotto. There will be a procession to the Grotto, followed by a decade of the rosary, prayer and songs. As a tribute to our Blessed Mother, a special crowning and flower offering will take place. Refreshments will be served in Rooms 16 & 17 at the Hall.

For more information, please contact Nilda Crisostomo at (925) 846-8234 or Remy Carpizo at (925) 846-8679.

Women's Retreat

Fr. Padraig Greene and eighty-three women from the Catholic Community of Pleasanton gathered in February at the San Damiano Retreat Center for a weekend of Spiritual Growth and Renewal.

Using “Prayer” as their theme, the women heard from life experiences, reflected, shared, journalized, prayed, and sang. There was free time for quiet meditation, hiking, socializing, or just enjoying the beauty and tranquility of San Damiano.

Fr. Padraig Greene provided the group with a wonderful healing & anointing service, many hours of private counseling time, a reconciliation service with three other priests assisting, and a beautiful Mass on Sunday afternoon.

The women who organized the retreat did a remarkable job. The participants came down from the mountain on a high; energized and renewed in spirit, with an enriched prayer life, newfound friends, and love in their hearts. A retreat, such as this, not only enhances the participants' lives; but in turn enhances the lives of the many people they encounter each day.

Breast Cancer Survivors Mass

On March 5th, the Catholic Community of Pleasanton held a special "Mass of Hope and Gratitude" for breast cancer survivors, their families, and friends at St. Elizabeth Seton Church.

Fr. Padraig Greene, the celebrant for the Mass, adminstered a special blessing and annointing of Holy Oils for the approximately 60 cancer survivors. The mass was very spiritual and healing. It also offered great hope as there were ladies in attendance who are 27 and 30 year breast cancer survivors.

The prayer and support group was started five years ago, when Mary Merucci and Helen Wirtenson felt the need for a faith oriented group; and, with the aid and blessing of Fr. Padraig, it began. It has given comfort, encouragement, and hope to many women diagnosed with breast cancer.

The prayer and support group meets at 7:00 p.m on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at St Elizabeth Seton Church, 4001 Stoneridge Drive, Pleasanton. (All are invited regardless of religious affiliation.)

Burying the Alleluia

"Thus the Alleluia is sung for the last time and not heard again until it suddenly bursts into glory during the Mass of the Easter Vigil when the celebrant intones this sacred word after the Epistle, repeating it three times, as a jubilant herald of the Resurrection of Christ."

Click Here to learn more about this Church "Farewell Custom." The Alleluia scrolls are buried in the clay urns at both church sites and covered with purple cloth. They will be uncovered at the Vigil on Saturday of the Triduum.
