This Special Religious Education Program is for developmentally handicapped Catholics aged 11 and up – some flexibility of ages based on registrations.

Since 1995, the Catholic Community of Pleasanton has provided space, hospitality and support for the Special Religious Education Department (SPRED).

SPRED is a program for awakening & deepening the faith life in Catholic teens and young adults with developmental disabilities. Our goal is to provide appropriate catechetical, liturgical and sacramental experiences for those who desire to share and grow in faith with others. SPRED catechists prepare a welcoming environment for our program. Our belief is that all people with developmental disabilities have a place in the church.

We are truly grateful for all the help from our church, but at this time, we are in dire need of catechists to keep our two classes going this fall. The commitment is every Thursday evening from October through May. No experience is necessary and training will be provided.
