It is now almost eight years since Helen Wirtenson and Mary Merucci came to me requesting the development of a Breast Cancer Survivor Group in the parish. I was aware that there were many such groups in the Tri-Valley area and wondered if there was a need.

I will always remember their words to me; “Yes there are such groups but we want a group with spirituality and prayer.” Just last week I celebrated the Sacrament of Anointing with the 16 participants at the monthly meeting. Helen and Mary have created an oasis of faith, hope, love and healing over the years.

Now they are stepping down from the leadership but of course have formed the leaders for the future – Madeline De La Fontaine, Penny DuPont and Grace Martell. I am deeply grateful to Helen and Mary for all they have done to develop this ministry and delighted that they will be available as consulters to the ministry. They will begin this ministry in Nobember.
