Liturgical Arts and Environment

Liturgical Arts and Environment is a sub-committee of CCOP's Liturgy Planning Committee whose purpose is to enhance our worship spaces. This group of very dedicated volunteers visualize, create, and implement the environmental decor so that it reflects the ever changing liturgical seasons and, as such, enhances our prayer experience.

This ministry is available for all Parishioners, regardless of artistic "ability" since everyone has something that they can contribute! The responsibilities of this sub-committee include: Art design, bulletin board decoration, candle care, floral design/maintenance and banner creation and maintenance. Additionally, we're always looking for people who are skilled at ironing and sewing.

The Liturgical Arts and Environment sub-committee meets at 7:30 pm on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month in Room C at st. Elizabeth Seton Church.

Come! Help us make the Catholic Community of Pleasanton a beautiful place to worship.

Charismatic Healing Mass

Celebrate Saturday Night with Jesus
Charismatic Healing Mass
September 15, 2007 7:30 - 10:00 P.M.
St. Elizabeth Seton Church
Bishop Allen H. Vigneron

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Sandi Wilson, through the Faith Formation office (925) 846-3531.

This ministry to children Kindergarten to 5th grade takes place during 8:00am and 10:00am liturgies at St. Augustine and 9:00am and 11:00am liturgies at St. Elizabeth Seton.

Children sit with their families when they first arrive. Prior to the first reading, they are led to the Parish Hall or Chapel by adult leaders. There they will hear the Word of God proclaimed from the Lectionary for Children and hear a reflection on the reading. Following the Prayers of the Faithful, they are escorted back to the church, where they are reunited with their families. There is no registration and no fee for this ministry.

Child Care -- General

In addition to the Sunday morning co-op, childcare is offered during sessions and activities for the following ministries: children's sacraments, CIC, faith formation, adult faith formation (RCIA, Returning Catholics, Family Evangelization), and other ongoing programs (infant baptisms, small communities, parish mission, etc.).
One person coordinates each of these six areas. A team leader heads the team of six coordinators.

Contact: Rectory, 846-4489

Child Care -- CO-OP Sunday Nursery

We would like to begin again our Sunday co-op nursery which is held in St. Augustine Hall during the 8 and 10 AM Masses. This is for children ages 6 mos. to 3 years.

But we need parents who are interested in this program and a couple of people who would be willing to coordinate it. In the past, parents only had to take their turn in the nursery about once every two months. I would like to have things that way again, but it will depend on your stepping forward to see if we have enough people to restart this ministry.

If you are interested, please call or drop Fr. Danielson a note: (925) 846-4489 or frdanielson@catholicsofpleasanton.org.

Children's Envelopes
Special offering and stewardship envelopes are available in the vestibule of the Church or at the Rectory for young people aged kindergarten through high school. Requests for information about service to others, growth in faith, etc., can be indicated on the envelope front. It is intended that any monetary offering should come from the young parishioner's own income, rather than directly from their parents.

Contact Fr. Danielson for more information, (925) 846-4478.

Detention Ministry - Santa Rita Jail

The Detention Ministry serves male and female adult inmates at the Alameda County Jail- Santa Rita in Dublin, California. Detention Ministry volunteers must attend three training sessions and meet additional requirements for regular access to the secured areas of the jail. Four forms of ministry are currently provided.

• Liturgy of the Word and Communion Services are offered on Saturday mornings at 8:00 A.M. in the jail housing units and at 9:00 A.M. in the chapel. On the first Saturday of the month Mass is offered in the chapel by a priest from one of the local
parishes accompanied by members of the parish's choir. Detention Ministers usually commit to attend one Saturday a month.

• Detention Ministers also meet with inmates on a one-on-one basis. This is typically the result of a written request by the inmate to meet with a chaplain. As there are no chaplains at the jail at his time, this function is performed by religious volunteers. This may be done after the Saturday morning services or on other days or evenings. In some cases, the Detention Minister may meet with the inmate on a recurring basis and, possibly, bring communion.

• Small group Bible study and sharing. This is usually done on a weekday evening by one or two volunteers. At present, these sessions are irregular. The Detention Ministry leaders would like to arrange to offer these sessions on a regularly scheduled basis.

• Detention Ministers also provide administrative support to Inmate Services by processing inmate requests for one-on-one visits and religious literature.

Eucharistic Ministers to Shut-Ins, to the Hospital

The Eucharistic ministry to the hospital is a wonderful way for you to stay in touch with the parish community during any hospital stay, receive the Blessed Sacrament and, if you choose, receive anointing from a priest.

Eucharistic ministers to shut-ins bring communion on a regular basis to people in the parish confined to their homes.

Eucharistic ministers to the hospital are parish pastoral care volunteers who offer Eucharist to patients at Valley Care Medical Center who have registered there as Catholics.

If you are admitted to Valley Care Medical Center for any reason and would like a visit from a Eucharistic Minister during your stay, please be proactive and inform the admitting or E.R. office of your religion and your request for visits from a representative of your Church.

Please pick up one of the small "HOSPITAL REQUEST" cards in the vestible of either church and sign it. Keeping this clipped to your health insurance card will help you remember to discuss this at any hospital admission.

Miss Julia Abdala, 484-3578 ext. 110.

Assisted Listening System

For those who may require the use of assisted listening devices - we have hearing instruments available that you may use during Mass. You may check them out before mass in the vestibule of the church - returning them after Mass.

Contact: Greeters at St. Augustine before each Mass on weekends.

Hospitality

Provided by a group of people who are willing to serve on an ad hoc basis to provide food and hospitality for special occasions.

Liturgy Planning Committee

CCOP's Liturgy Planning Committee’s mission is to enhance the spiritual life of our parish through preparation and coordination of its liturgical celebrations (e.g., Sunday liturgies, Sacred Triduum, Holy Days of Obligation, devotions, blessings, Communion Services, etc.). This Committee of Parish volunteers maintains a current understanding of the Church's liturgical documents and instructions from the U. S. Bishops through self-guided study, group study, workshops and liturgical conferences. We regularly make presentations to the Parish at large on the meaning of the Church’s worship and how ritual is celebrated in our community.

The Committee coordinates or provides liturgical guidance and support to the Liturgical Arts and Environment sub-committee, Youth Liturgy Committee and Children's/Family Liturgy Committee. Additionally, the Committee recruits, trains, and schedules liturgical ministers (i.e., Lectors, Head Eucharistic Ministers, Extraordinary MInisters of Holy Communion, Ushers, Greeters, and Altar Servers).

The Liturgy Planning Committee meets at 7:30 pm on the first and third Mondays of each month in Room C at St. Elizabeth Seton Church.

A member of the Liturgy Planning Committee sits on the Parish Council each year. This year Pati Freitas will represent the committee.

A member of the committee is assigned to each Mass on weekends. A 2007-2008 Liturgy Coordinator outline is available in PDF format. The Liturgy Coordinators for each Mass are presented below:

5 p.m. Don Pierini 8 a.m. Allan Espiritu
