Overview of the Video Library
for the Catholic Community of Pleasanton

The Catholic Community of Pleasanton established a Video Library to encourage the faith development of its members. The Library consists of a wide array of inspirational, educational, thought provoking, and entertaining videos suitable for personal, small faith group, or committee viewing. There is a large selection of values-based videos for toddlers through adolescence, along with life-challenging topics for teen viewing. Study/discussion guides or copied materials pertinent to the subject matter accompany some of the videos and will be provided at your request. The majority of films have been purchased or donated for this library; however, a few of the selections have been copied from televised recordings.

The video library is located in the
St. Augustine Parish Hall, Room 3.
Library hours coincide with the scheduled Masses:
9:30 to 11:45 a.m. on Sunday

Drawing on the resources of the existing inventory of nearly 800 books, a "Read More About It" Library has also been established. The books in this section have a relationship to some of the video selections and are catalogued according to their respective movie association. The parish envisions the Video Library programs as having the potential to spark an initial interest in a particular subject matter, the Study Guides to prompt further thought, and the resources of the Book Library to encourage additional exploration.

Video Library Catalog

The videos have been given ID numbers and cataloged with an alphabetical prefix to indicate their general subject matter. You may search the online version of the catalog or follow the links below to browse by category.

Abbreviations have been used under the "Audience" category on the catalog listing to represent viewing interest groups. The abbreviations used are:

  • "P" - Personal Use
  • "S" - Small Group
  • "C" - Committee/Catechist Use

Everyone is free to borrow any of the video selections. A movie industry rating has also been indicated where appropriate.

The videos are due back within one (1) week of borrowing them. There is no cost to the individual borrowing these tapes; however, courtesy in a timely return is requested.

Procedures & Policies of the Video Library

Membership Registration

A Family Membership Card must be completed in order to borrow videos from the Library. This Membership Card will remain on file at the Video Library.

Video Check-out and Return Procedures:
Library Hours: Sundays, 8:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

  1. Select the videos you wish to borrow and bring the jackets to the check-out table. We suggest a maximum check-out of two video selections per family, though we are flexible in meeting the needs of the individual family.
  2. A Video Library volunteer will keep the video jacket and give you the video in its take-home case with a return dated slip inserted into the pocket. You will need to print your name and telephone number on the Video File Card that the volunteer will give you. The Library will keep this on file until the video has been returned.
  3. Videos are on loan for one (1) week and should be returned to the VIDEO RETURN CONTAINER on the check-out table during Library hours. During non-operating hours, please return your videos to the locked VIDEO DROP BOX outside the Library door.
  4. There is no cost to borrow a video, however, courtesy in returning videos in a timely manner is requested. We also request a spirit of honesty and accountability in the replacement cost (approx. $25.00) of any video that is inadvertently damaged or lost.
  5. Please REWIND the Video before returning it, as a courtesy to the next viewer.

Video Library Policy

The Video Library has been developed for the spiritual growth and enrichment of the members of the Catholic Community of Pleasanton. The Library is a means to live out our Parish Mission Statement. The Library's establishment and operation is a volunteer ministry that has been funded by the Parish. The videos have either been purchased or donated to the Library and represent a wide array of spiritual thought. Every video has not been thoroughly screened, however, and if something is found objectionable by a viewer, please bring it to the attention of the Video Library Committee, for further consideration. It is our hope that this Video Library will encourage the faith development of our parishioners as "they endeavor to live their lives as disciples of the Lord Jesus."

Donations and Volunteer Work

Please bring donated video selections to the parish rectory, indicating that they are a donation to the Video Library.

We want your ideas and suggestions, too. If you have a video selection you would like added to the video library, just call the rectory at 846-4489.

Are you interested in being on the Video Library Committee? Volunteer one Sunday a month for two hours (a good way to meet fellow parishioners). It's easy. Please call St. Augustine Church, 846-4489, or complete a volunteer form at the Library if you would like to participate in this special ministry.

It is our hope that the Video Library will be an enjoyable and spiritually beneficial outreach to our parish members in the endeavor to live lives as disciples of the Lord Jesus.
