About Us - The Catholic Community of Pleasanton

My Dear Friends,

I want to welcome you to the city of Pleasanton. We have a wonderful family-oriented community here and many Christian churches to support you and your family.

The Catholic Community of Pleasanton would be pleased to have you join us at our two worship sites, St. Augustine and St. Elizabeth Seton. Our parish serves primarily the residents of Pleasanton and Sunol and parts of northeast Dublin.

Please call us during the week at 846-4489 to register and obtain more information about our parish services and ministries. You may also send an e-mail message to our church administrator Olga Morineau at omorineau@catholicsofpleasanton.org to request more information.

If you have been away from the active practice of your faith for a while, please know how welcome you are to re-explore your faith among us. We even have a special program to assist in this open-ended exploration called "Returning Catholics."

If you are not Catholic but are open to looking into the Catholic Church, please know how happy we would be to answer your questions and share the gift of our faith. We invite you particularly to talk with our director of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) process, Andrea Giovannoni at 474-2781 or Zeda Miller at 789-0183. There is a Catholic Inquiry session each Sunday morning, 9:30-11:00 a.m. in the rectory conference room at St. Augustine Church. Meetings include time to ask your questions, receive information about the Catholic faith, beliefs and practice with Catholics who are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their faith.

Above all, we exist as a community who loves Jesus and desires to serve you in any way that will help you draw closer to Him.

I am happy to have you as a neighbor in Pleasanton. We'd love to have you join us!

Rev. Padraig Greene, Parochical Administrator

The Catholic Church – Deeply Rooted in Faith

The Roman Catholic Church has a rich tradition, dating back two millennia. It is a faith with Jewish roots, with Jesus as its founder, Peter as its first leader, and the present pope as Peter's successor in our day.

The church today urges all its members to develop an enduring love for the Bible and to make the sacred scriptures central to their prayer lives.

Jesus Christ is our Savior and our model. He is Son of God and Son of Mary, who walked on the water and yet wept for a friend. Jesus is both divine and human, perfect in all respects while still like us in every way except sin. By the gift of His Spirit, He empowers us to continue His work on earth.

The Church's official public prayer of worship is called the liturgy, a term derived from a Greek word signifying some public service to be performed by the citizens of the state. In liturgical prayer, members of the Church gather together and worship in a formal way. The main expression of our liturgy is called the Mass.
