We enter the holiest week of the year by recalling the Lord’s triumphant entrance into Jerusalem and his passion, death and resurrection according to St. Matthew. Weather permitting, all liturgies at. St. Augustine will begin outside in the grotto and process into the church.

The Sacrament Of Reconciliation (Confession) will be celebrated in St. Augustine Church beginning at 9:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Several priests will join us throughout the day as we celebrate God’s merciful forgiveness toward us in preparation for Easter.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) is one of the most unique and beautiful aspects of Catholicism. Jesus Christ, in His abundant love and mercy, established the Sacrament of Confession, so that we as sinners can obtain forgiveness for our sins and reconcile with God and the Church. The sacrament “washes us clean,” and renews us in Christ.

TRIDUUM
Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Great Vigil of Easter should be viewed as one celebration held over three days. The three days are complimentary as they recall aspects of God’s love shown for us through the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus. These are the holiest days of the Church year – central to the Catholic faith - culminating in the Great Vigil of Easter. All are invited and encouraged to attend all three celebrations. All Triduum services will be webcast.

Thursday, April 6

We begin the Triduum by celebrating the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. On this night we receive into the Church the holy oils to be used in the coming year. Following the Gospel, we ritually fulfill Jesus’ new commandment of love and service for one another in the washing of the feet. In this beautiful and powerful moment we demonstrate our willingness to place ourselves at each other’s service as Christ has asked. Following Eucharist, we solemnly process to The Altar of Repose. The consecrated bread and wine reserved for Good Friday will be exposed here until midnight for personal prayer. This recalls how, after the Last Supper, the Lord journeyed to the Garden of Gethsemane to spend the evening in prayer until his arrest. We will be celebrating with our brothers and sisters from the Tri-Valley Korean Catholic Community, with parts of the Mass being in English & Korean.

GOOD FRIDAY
Friday, April 7

Stations of the Cross at 12:00 noon at St. Augustine Church | Official Good Friday Liturgy of the Church with Holy Communion at 8:00 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
On the second day of the Triduum we remember the Lord’s passion and death on the cross. The Stations of the Cross will be presented at 12:00 PM at St. Augustine Church. There will be a cross walk from St. Augustine to St. Elizabeth Seton at 4:30 PM finishing at the John Paul II Activity center at 7:15 PM. In the evening, at 8:00 PM at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, we will celebrate the Official Liturgy of the Church for Good Friday, which includes the Liturgy of the Word, Veneration of the Cross and a simple Communion service. This is the only day of the year the Church does not celebrate Mass. The Sacrament we receive is that which was consecrated on Holy Thursday.

On this holiest night of the year, at the high Mass of the entire year, we celebrate God’s victory over sin and death through the central event of our faith - The Resurrection of Jesus Christ! On this night we welcome the risen Christ in the Easter fire, hear the ancient stories of our faith, and joyfully initiate new members into the Catholic Church through Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist. Once again we sing “Alleluia” and declare our faith anew. We will be celebrating with our brothers and sisters from the Tri-Valley Korean Catholic Community, with parts of the Mass being in English & Korean.
