What Is A Lector A Lector, also known as a Minister of the Word or Reader, is a trained, fully initiated Catholic who proclaims the first and second readings from Sacred Scripture during Mass and may lead the Responsorial Psalm in the absence of a cantor and the Prayers of the Faithful. Lectors prepare for their role by studying, praying, and practicing the scriptures to clearly and reverently communicate God's Word to the congregation.
Qualifications To Be A Lector Qualifications necessary to be a good Lector include: A practicing adult Catholic who has received Confirmation and is able to show responsibility, knowledge and dedication to the liturgy; commitment to fostering volunteer participation within all groups and Masses; ability and willingness to commit the time needed on a daily basis; attention to detail; excellent communication skills; excellent public speaking skills.
