“The Giving Tree” is a parish-wide Christmas family-to-family gift-giving program to needy families throughout the Diocese. Under the auspices of the Social Justice Committee, a small planning group contacts 10 other parishes in the Diocese and our parish’s local St. Vincent de Paul Society to solicit the names and needs of up to 50 needy families per Parish contacted.
Volunteers prepare individual family envelopes with lists of their needs for distribution at two weekend masses in November. CCOP Parishioners take the envelopes, shop for the families and wrap and return gifts to the Rectory in December. On “delivery day,” parishioners with trucks or vans and several large donated trucks deliver the gifts to the various Parishes and our own local community for distribution to the needy families. This program often provides the only Christmas gifts these families will receive. It also provides CCOP Parishioners and their families with the opportunity to participate in the true meaning of Christmas giving.
