“As
each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good
stewards of God’s varied grace.” (I Peter
4:`10)
Today we invite people to be more than members of our Church. We
call them to be disciples and good stewards. We teach them to live
a way of life based on the understanding that all is a gift from
God; everything we are and have is freely given for our good. So
we should return a portion of our gifts to God in gratitude for
God’s abundant generosity . This is the basis for stewardship.
Stewardship of time, talent and treasure is another way of worshipping,
praising and thanking God.
Stewardship begins not with the needs of the parish but with the
personal need of each of us to return to God a portion of our time,
treasure and talent.
Stewardship of time begins with an awareness of my blessings and
my responsibility to share my time with others to build the community.
Stewardship of treasure is more than responding to the financial/material
needs of the parish - it is the need of the giver to give.
A good steward discerns his/her talents and uses those in ministry
in the parish to build up the community. All parishioners have gifts
to share and all gifts are welcomed.
Parishioners of all ages are called to practice stewardship. Children
and young people are encouraged to develop their talents and use
them to serve the community.
We have a very strong community. Our parish is a community of ministers
– good stewards. The challenge is, and will always be, to
keep this spirit growing. We need to keep our focus on stewardship
as a way of life. This will enable us to build the kingdom of Gold
and to call forth the gifts that God has given to us, so we can
respond with generosity.
