Detention Ministry

The Detention Ministry is composed of Catholic volunteers from around the Tri-Valley, including from the Catholic Community of Pleasanton, St. Raymond's (Dublin), St. Joan of Arc (San Ramon), St. Charles and St. Michael (Livermore) and beyond. 

Our mission is to reveal God’s infinite love and mercy to our brothers and sisters incarcerated at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.

What we do is facilitate religious services:

• Weekly: study of the liturgy of the word, including open discussions, and communion service. 
• Monthly: mass with one of the local priests and choir
• Bi-annually: reconciliation service during Advent and Lent
• Annually: Ash Wednesday and Collection of toys for children of inmates for Christmas

We Need Volunteers!
The Catholic Detention Ministry is looking for volunteers to visit men and women at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. In addition to the requirements specific to this facility, a Catholic detention minister must:

• Be at least 21 years of age
• Be a legal resident of the United States
• Have received the sacrament of Confirmation
• Be in good standing with the Catholic Church
• Be registered to a parish in the Diocese of Oakland
• Possess basic social and interpersonal skills
• Commit to minister at least once, preferably twice, a month.

Security and religious training will be provided.
