Providing BART Tickets and Bus Passes For Those In Need Our faith calls us to look outside ourselves to focus on our brothers and sisters in need. The CCOP Social Justice Committee invites parishioners to donate unused BART tickets and to contribute funds for the purchase of bus passes for those in need. Bus Passes are an important lifeline for travel to jobs and job interviews, medical appointments, food pantries, and other local services, such as hot meals, showers, laundry, and more. BART tickets are needed for travel to appointments with Social Security and other social services, court dates, or Highland Hospital in Oakland.
Donate Unused BART Tickets BART has eliminated the sale of paper tickets and now only sells Clipper cards. Paper tickets cannot be transferred onto a Clipper card, but fare gates still accept paper tickets loaded with funds to access the paid area of a station. If the paper ticket balance is not sufficient for their fare, riders are able to add fare using cash at Addfare machines located inside the paid area of each station so they can exit at their destination.
You can use the funds on a paper ticket this way, but better yet – Donate your unused BART tickets for Livermore Homeless Refuge to provide to our local homeless friends. To donate unused paper BART tickets place them in an envelope marked “Livermore Homeless Refuge” and drop it in the mail slot at the rectory at St. Augustine Church or at the office area at St. Elizabeth Seton Church.
Donate Money for Bus Passes Asbury United Methodist Church purchases 24-hour bus passes ($3.75 each) from Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority (LAVTA), known locally as Wheels. The Church distributes them to local non-profits including Livermore Homeless Refuge, Open Heart Kitchen, Interfaith Sharing Food Pantry, Axis Community Health, and Tri-Valley Haven who in turn provide the passes directly to those who need them.
Donations can be made online at www.asburylive.org/buspassprogram or by mailing a check to Asbury United Methodist Church, 4743 East Ave., Livermore, California, 94550. Please write “Bus Pass” on the envelope and in the memo line of the check and include an email address.
Thank you for your generosity! These small acts of kindness are essential for the daily life of the homeless.
