Next opportunity to volunteer is Saturday, September 21st! Please reach out to Joe Carlluci no later than Monday, August 12th. 

One Saturday a month (usually the third Saturday) from 9:00 AM until Noon, CCOP leads a group of up to five (5) volunteers to help in the Garden of Grace at Fertile GroundWorks in Livermore, which is a community garden that grows and donates produce to Open Heart Kitchen and local food pantries to feed the needy. Fertile GroundWorks also champions locally grown food and facilitates creation and sustainable operation of community, school, and employee gardens.

If you would like to volunteer with the group from CCOP, please:

1. Email Joe Carlucci of the CCOP Social Justice Committee at [email protected]. Joe will confirm the CCOP volunteer date(s) and let you know if there is still space to volunteer. Joe will provide more detailed information as needed.
2. Go to the Fertile Groundworks website and complete the short volunteer form at the following link: Fertile GroundWorks: Volunteer in Our Livermore Organic Garden (You only need to complete this form once a year.)

 
​The dates for 2024 are September 21,  October 19, November 16 and December 21.
 
Volunteering in the garden is a fun learning experience. It is often physical work, but it is interesting and rewarding. One bonus to visiting the garden is that they give away beautiful organic compost. If you are interested, bring your own buckets or bags to fill with compost.
 
Here is some other essential information:

• The Fertile GroundWorks Garden of Grace is located at the end of the parking lot behind Asbury Methodist Church at 4743 East Ave, Livermore, CA 94550.
• They provide the garden equipment needed for volunteers.
• All volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes
• Volunteers must sign a waiver to work in the garden.
• Student volunteers need a parent to sign a waiver when their parent drops them off
• They have used garden gloves that are washed after each use, but we recommend bringing your own garden gloves
• Bring drinking water.
• A hat and appropriate layered clothing to accommodate hot or cold weather.
