Habitat For Humanity

Join us in building affordable homes with Habitat for Humanity! No construction experience is needed. A team of dedicated Habitat staff and AmeriCorps Crew Leaders, along with fellow volunteers will teach you all you need to know. Whether you have never picked up a hammer, are an experienced tradesperson, or fall somewhere in between, sign up to volunteer. Learn new skills, have fun, and support affordable housing!

All volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Volunteers younger than 18 must bring a signed minor waiver form with them to the site. Minor waiver forms are available on the registration site once you have signed up for the event through the link above. Youth under 18 will also need a Diocese of Oakland Permission Form to volunteer. You can download the form here.

Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to helping families build decent, affordable places to call home. They are building 42 mixed-income and affordable townhomes in Walnut Creek called the Esperanza Place Development.

Parking: Please note that parking is extremely limited. Allow ample time to find parking and arrive on site before 8:30 AM to check in. Parking is available on side streets near the construction site. Check street signs for parking restrictions and do not block neighborhood driveways. It is best to leave valuables at home or out of view in your car.

Lunch: We will break for 30 - 45 minutes for lunch at noon. They ask that you bring a bag lunch and a refillable water bottle on your workday. Jugs of tap water are available.

Facilities: Portable toilets are on site, as well as a hand-washing station. Indoor plumbing will not be available.

Tools: All hand tools, power tools, and safety equipment (including hard hats, goggles, and gloves) will be provided. You may bring your own hand tools if you prefer, but be sure to label them with your name.

Clothes: Please wear closed-toed shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty, painted, or ruined. Most volunteers wear sneakers, jeans (or shorts), an old t-shirt, and a sweatshirt. Layer for the weather and bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to stay protected from the sun. In case of rain, bring rain gear, as we will work through light rain.
 
Rain: For safety reasons, we will close the site in the event of heavy rain. Call 510-251-6304 and please follow prompt #7 and then prompt #1 after 7:00am on the morning of your build day. A message will inform you of site closures. If the message makes no mention of rain, assume the site is open. If your build day is canceled due to rain we will make every effort to reschedule as soon as possible.
 
And lastly, it is important to be on time for the morning orientation and work assignments. Please arrive a little before 8.30am to allow for check-in.
